Diehard rock fans have enjoyed a night to remember at the Sounds of Rock festival on the Fraser Coast.
Hundreds of punters were front and centre at Seafront Oval in Hervey Bay to listen to the music stylings of some of Australia’s most iconic performers, including Leo Sayer, Daryl Braithwaite and Kate Ceberano.
Killing Heidi were expected to hit the stage however were unable to due to lead singer Ella Hooper’s illness.
The lead up to the highly anticipated music event was on tenterhooks due to the bout of wild weather this week, particularly in the Hervey Bay area early on Saturday.
Three hours ahead of when the first acts were scheduled to grace the stage, patrons were already arriving at the gates, albeit fitted out with wet weather gear and umbrellas.
Also in good spirits were first time performers at the festival, metal group Ruination, whose guitarist and vocalist Luke Karolak quipped: “As long as we don’t get electrocuted it’s all good.”
“I don’t have any leave left from work.”
Mr Karolak said they were fortunate to be put on the bill playing alongside Aussie music royalty.
“It’s our biggest gig to date, names and stuff like that, and the biggest stage we’ve played to date,” the Maryborough musician said.
“I’d like to meet Daryl Braithwaite to get an autograph from my mum for him.”
