Detectives have released CCTV footage of a man they wish to identify as part of ongoing investigations into a fire at Pacific Haven last month that claimed the life of a 50-year-old man.

About 1.35am on February 18, emergency services attended a fire at a shed which had been the home of 50-year-old Damian Ramsay, at Pacific Haven Drive on the Fraser Coast.

A subsequent search located Mr Ramsay’s body.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding Mr Ramsay’s death have revealed that a quantity of power tools were stolen from a shed situated around 60 metres from the residence between 2pm on February 17 and 1.35am on February 18.

Detectives are seeking information from the public regarding the theft of these tools in order to determine whether it is related to the fire, which has not yet been confirmed.

Detective Senior Sergeant David Harbison said no determination had yet been made regarding how the fire had started.

The power tools had been taken from a shed about 60m from where Mr Ramsay had been living in a “donga” style accommodation.

Det Snr Sgt Harbison said it was believed the tools were stolen anytime between 2pm on February 17 up to 1.30am on February 18 when the fire was reported.

Drills, socket sets, drop saws and the like had been among the items stolen, he said

De Snr Sgt Harbison asked anyone with information regarding the power tools to come forward.

He said police did not know if there was a connection between the theft of the tools and the fire.

“We’re naturally wanting to find that out,” he said.

“Anyone with information please come forward and explain to police where you came by the tools.”

Det Snr Sgt asked for a man who had been captured on CCTV to come forward, saying police had information he may have been in the Pacific Haven area on the night of the fire.

The CCTV footage showed a man being dropped off from a vehicle in Steley St, Howard.

Police were aiming to rule the man in or out of their investigation, Det Snr Sgt Harbison said.

Police were not calling it a homicide so far, he said.

It was still an unexplained sudden death but the theft of the tools had caused concern.

That did not mean the two incidents were necessarily related, Det Snr Sgt Harbison said, with police aiming to find out.
