A young man has been flown off K’gari after suffering burns to multiple parts of his body in a Boxing Day incident at the popular tourist island.
Emergency crews, including the RACQ LifeFlight helicopter, were called to the island about 6.24pm Tuesday.
A QAS spokeswoman said the man, aged in his 20s, suffered burns to his abdomen and legs from radiator fluid while he was at a Coongul Creek campsite.
He was flown to Bundaberg Hospital in a stable condition.
The incident followed a busy public holiday for first responders in which several hours of wild weather left a trail of destruction and flash flooding in its wake and sparked a desperate search for two women in the Mary River at Gympie.
Emergency services, including SES and swift water rescue teams, were called to the banks of the river in the centre of the city about 3.30pm after reports three women were washed away in flood waters.
Only one of the women, a 46-year-old, resurfaced.
Search crews scoured the river for several hours, locating the body of a 40-year-old about 7.10pm.
The third woman, a 46-year-old, remains missing and the search resumed Wednesday morning.
