Man in court for sexually abusing child in her home

A university-educated IT specialist has been jailed for sexually abusing a child multiple times in one horror weekend.

A Maryborough businessman specialising in IT who sexually abused a child in her own home over a weekend has been sentenced.

The man who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty at Maryborough District Court on Wednesday to five counts of sexually abusing a child under the age of 12.

The court was told that throughout a weekend in 2022 the man sexually abused the victim five times on the property the girl lived in.

Crown Prosecutor Amy Stannard said the man’s behaviour was “a gross breach of trust” and recommended he serve three years’ prison with a parole date of one year.

The man’s lawyer did not contest the recommendation and told the court “I endorse the prosecution’s sentencing recommendation”.

He told the court his client “recognised he needs help” to which Judge Tony Moynihan replied, “he obviously needs treatment”.

A psychologist‘s report which was presented to the court said the man “only had limited insight into the inappropriate nature of his actions”.

Mr Moynihan sentenced the man to three years’ prison with a parole eligibility date of November 1, 2024.

Convictions were recorded.
