Wild scenes have unfolded at a busy corner in Hervey Bay after an alleged thief was arrested in broad daylight opposite the swimming pool after allegedly stealing a car at Torquay Beach.
At around 4:45pm on Monday, a Toyota 79 Land Cruiser is alleged to have been stolen from near the Torquay Beach jetty before coming to stop at the Boundary Road, Bideford Street intersection in Wondunna.
The intersection is situated opposite the Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre and close-by to sporting fields home and numerous clubs such as the United Warriors Football Club and Hervey Bay Tennis Club.
After an alleged argument between the victims and alleged offender, police arrived on the scene and arrested a male before taking him to Hervey Bay Police Station for questioning.
A police spokesman said late on Monday they had not yet identified the alleged defendant as he was still being questioned at the watchhouse.
More to come.
