Hundreds have shopped for bargains as a new discount supermarket opened its doors in Hervey Bay.

The shelves were fully stocked ahead of Wednesday’s grand opening at Fresh & Save at Stockland Shopping Centre, in the area that formerly housed Target.

The business will join its fellow Fresh & Save in Maryborough in offering big discounts on produce, food and other items.

Earlier this year, hundreds of people lined up to apply for jobs at the new business, with 130 locals lucky to score a position.

Fresh & Save is just one of several new businesses that have opened at Stockland in recent times

TK Maxx, offering everything from fashion to accessories, homewares and beauty was also opening its door this month.

The store is located next to the newly opened QBD bookstore.

Stockland Hervey Bay Centre Manager Paul Davis recently revealed a new Skechers and BWS store would also be opening soon.

Target closed its doors at the centre earlier this year, while dessert bar Yo-Get-It closed in April.
