A mum of five who slashed open her then-partner’s neck after an argument has faced court on a charge of wounding.

Alicia Jane McCusker, 36, pleaded guilty when she faced Hervey Bay District Court this week.

Crown prosecutor Stephanie Gallagher said the two had been staying together at McCusker’s home for about a week before the incident.

“In effect they get into an argument when he goes to leave and she was unhappy about that,” Ms Gallagher said.

“She made a threat towards him while he was waiting outside.

“Then she followed him outside and told him ‘I hate dopey c---s like you’ and with that she wounded him across his neck.”

Ms Gallagher said it was not known what implement had caused the injury.

She said it was not a very deep cut and while the man went to the hospital that night, he left without being seen. A few days later he was seen by a doctor and treated with an antibiotic cream for the wound.

Ms Gallagher said while it was a shallow cut, it was the location of the wound that made the offence serious.

The court heard McCusker had a blue and yellow card enabling her to work in aged care and disability services.

She now worked for DoorDash, he said.

McCusker had five children, three of whom still lived with her, and suffered from anxiety and depression, defence lawyer Justin Geldard told the court.

She had met the man on an online dating site and he had “imposed himself on her” with a view of moving in with her and her children, Mr Geldard said.

McCusker was resistant to that and the relationship ended, the court heard.

However, they ran into each other later and rekindled their relationship.

On the day of the incident, the two were at a pool hall drinking together and she “lost count” of how many drinks they had consumed.

They then went back to her residence where an argument began over whether the man should move in with her, the court was told.

Because of the argument he tried to leave, ordering an Uber.

The woman then “snapped and saw rage” but she could not remember what was said or what triggered her behaviour, the court heard.

Judge Michael Burnett said the wound was a slash or gash injury and had been caused to a vulnerable part of the man’s body.

McCusker was sentenced to 18 months in prison suspended for three years.
