Popular homewares outlet Harris Scarfe is set to reopen in Hervey Bay after it closed its doors at Stockland Shopping Centre in 2020.
The budget retailer will fill the space now occupied by Spotlight on Boat Harbour Drive at the Stockland complex when the fabric and craft supplier moves into its new home at an upcoming $60 million development, which will also house outdoor adventure store Anaconda.
The new development will also include a 375-bay basement car park, designed with high clearance to cater for caravan owners.
Harris Scarfe closed its doors at the start of the Covid pandemic.
At the time there was speculation that other lower priced chains such as Big W and Kmart, both popular in the region, contributed to the demise of the Hervey Bay outlet.
The chain went into receivership last year before the Spotlight Group stepped in and bought it.
The space formerly occupied by Harris Scarfe at Stockland has been filled by QBD Books.
Saffron Indian also joined the food court at the Hervey Bay shopping centre last year, while dessert chain Yo-Get-It closed, along with Target.
Meanwhile, another major retail development is set to go before the Fraser Coast council at its meeting on Wednesday.
An application for a new Aldi supermarket at Eli Waters will also be voted on.
The selected site for the new 8000sq m development is at the corner of Serenity Drive and Pialba-Burrum Heads Road.
There are three Aldi stores on the Fraser Coast: one at Maryborough, one at Urraween and one at Urangan.
If the project is approved, developing the site is expected to generate 30 new store jobs and provide for an expected increase in construction jobs.
