A pile of human faeces and used toilet paper has been dumped at the front gate to a Men’s Business property on the Fraser Coast, where 75 per cent of the population voted no in the Voice referendum.

An indigenous Elder has spoken out after what appears to be a large pile of human excrement was dumped outside the gate of the Butchulla Men’s Business property on the Fraser Coast.

Butchulla elder Glen Miller was an outspoken campaigner during the lead-up to the recent Voice referendum. He said on Wednesday a man doing work at the property had sent him the shocking photos of excrement, which appeared to be from a compost toilet.

Mr Miller said there was a sign on the gate advising people that the land had been leased by the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service to his organisation, and he felt the waste had been left to “send us a message” after the referendum defeat.

He said it appeared the unwanted visitor had reached the gate and had been unable to go any further, leaving the load full of waste and toilet paper to be discovered at the gate.

“They let us know they’re not happy,” he said.

“We’re not dealing with intellectual giants here.”

In October, Australians had their say on whether the Constitution should be changed to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice, with the Yes vote defeated.

Maryborough’s No vote was 75 per cent, Mr Miller said, leaving him unsurprised that someone might choose to commit such a disgusting act.

In the wake of the referendum result, Mr Miller spoke to the Chronicle, vowing he would not stop fighting for indigenous people on the big issues.

At the time, he said he felt the problem with the Yes campaign was that it had been “based on emotion”.

“There were no pragmatics in there,” he said.

“People aren’t going to vote for something they don’t understand.

“I understood what (Prime Minister Anthony) Albanese was trying to do, create something that a politician couldn’t get rid of, but I think he didn’t do it very well.”

Mr Miller said he felt sorry for the person who had dumped the pile of excrement.

“But we’re not going to take any notice.

“I’m happy to let the rest of the population know the limits of their intelligence.”

Mr Miller said he had sent a photo of the pile to a parks and wildlife ranger since it was technically on their property, telling him it was “on his road outside his gate”.

The man who made the unpleasant discovery, who asked to be identified as Robert, said he had been on his way to the property to carry out some work.

“It was sitting right in the middle of the driveway,” he said.

“I thought it was something out of a septic tank.”

Robert said he could see “heaps of paper” among the waste.

“People do a lot of weird and wonderful stuff,” he said.

Robert said he had used a tractor to push the waste out of the driveway.

A spokesman for the Department of Environment and Science said the department had been informed and was investigating.
