Fraser Island holiday accommodation application lodged with council

A “multi-wing” property, similar to treetop cabins seen in hinterland rainforests, is proposed for Fraser Island, adding a touch of luxury to the rugged adventure playground. SEE THE PLANS:

A new kind of holiday home experience is proposed for Fraser Island’s Orchid Beach.

The lavish five-unit, high-set timber development would be built at 2 Fraser Court.

Outside the boundaries of its resort complexes, Fraser Island isn’t synonymous with modern luxury.

While many a humble holiday home is a favourite with families and fishers looking for eco-friendly comfort at the end of long days four-wheel driving, hiking and checking out perched freshwater lakes and wildlife, investors are beginning to explore new options in the island paradise.

Murphy Builders Qld Pty Ltd lodged the development application with the Fraser Coast Regional Council on May 10, 2022.

According to the application currently before council, the project would include a main building with elevated, covered walkways branching off the sides which link to five individual units or “wings”.

These wings are all interconnected via sheltered walkways.

The air-conditioned high-set timber and colourbond clad cabins would each include their own bedroom, bathroom, living area, kitchenette and balcony.

Based on the application, the main building is intended to be an open-plan communal space for guests to “cook, entertain and relax”.

An onsite swimming pool with under-water lighting and parking for both cars and boats is also planned.

Schoolies would be banned and the cabins would not be let out to individual guests, according to the application.

Instead, the idea is for one family or group to hire out the whole property at once.

According to property records, the block sold in 2019 for $500,000 to Dingo Property Holdings Pty Ltd.

A site map shows the property’s proximity to other holiday homes and unit complexes like Orchid Beach Resort, just a couple of streets back from the oceanfront and the Orchid Beach Trading Post.

A spokesperson from the council said the application has been accepted and was currently being processed.
