There were cheers and tears across the Fraser Coast and Queensland on Monday morning as hundreds of Prep students started their school journey.

Across Hervey Bay and Maryborough, Fraser Coast parents said goodbye to their young ones as they rushed through the gates to begin the biggest adventure of their lives so far.

State schools were open for business on Monday, but many independent and private schools begin their school year on Tuesday. More photos to come tomorrow.
