A Domino’s employee found himself in hot water when he stole a slice of profits after a late shift.
Rhys Ian Patrick Geddes, 26, pleaded guilty to one count of stealing by clerks or servants when he faced Hervey Bay Magistrates Court.
The court heard he was working as a shift manager at Torquay’s Domino’s store when the incident happened.
Geddes had been scheduled to work on the day of the theft, but had to refuse the shift as he was collecting his great grandmother from Bundaberg.
Later that night however, he went into the store about midnight to offer to close the tills so the manager could leave early.
Geddes was seen on CCTV placing items in his pocket and the till was later found to be down by $184.
The employee later made admissions to police about taking the money.
He said he had only taken two $50 notes, which was accepted by the court.
Geddes mother had died when he was 18-months-old, the court heard, and he lived with his grandmother.
He was single and now unemployed.
His hours at Domino’s had been significantly reduced in the lead up to the incident, the court was told, and Geddes was under financial strain.
He had acted impulsively when he took the money, the court heard.
In a meeting with the managers of the business, Geddes had offered to pay back the $100.
He was able and willing to pay restitution, the court was told.
Geddes had no prior criminal history and was regretful of his actions.
He was looking for work and interested in a career in real estate.
Geddes was fined $500 and was ordered to pay $100 in restitution.
No conviction was recorded
