A security guard has been fired and will have to show cause as to why he should keep his security licence after he stole multiple items from his workplace.
Regan Bo-Jay Waterfield, 23, faced Caloundra Magistrates Court on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to two counts of stealing.
Police prosecutor Jeanette Grigoris said on September 17 an employee of the victim business identified that a battery charger and batteries had been stolen from the office.
CCTV footage showed Waterfield entering a shed space at Unitywater during the evening in his uniform as part of the security patrols.
He was seen on the footage to be hanging around on the site for longer than usual, the court heard.
On November 2, the company noticed a breathalyser, a drill press and a set of calipers had also been stolen.
They reviewed the footage again and saw Waterfield on the site longer than usual.
Police found the items in Waterfield’s possession and he admitted to stealing the property.
Solicitor Anna Smith said her client had no criminal history and had been working for the security company for more than two years.
“He has no explanation as to why he may have offended in the way he did,” Ms Smith said.
“He is a young man and has made a stupid, foolish decision and is remorseful for it.
“He has lost his job as a result of it and also his security licence has been suspended … he has to show cause as to why he would get his security licence back.”
The court heard the property had been returned to the victim company which used the shed space at Unitywater.
Waterfield was fined $800 for the stealing offences and no convictions were recorded.
