Tragedy has plagued a beautiful Fraser Coast family for the past six months, and their latest ordeal is one being faced by too many of our loved ones, friends, neighbours and acquaintances.
Krissie-Lee Sheridan was just 26 years old when she died in 2021 in a terrible car accident on the Bruce Highway at Kolonga.
She was reported missing by her employers after not arriving at work.
In the hopes someone from the community had seen her, Krissie-Lee’s family shared photos of their daughter on Facebook.
However, the search ended in tragedy when Krissie-Lee was found dead in her car.
Now, a year later, Krissie-Lee’s sister Ashleigh Pedersen, 28, has been diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer.
On top of this, the family’s grandfather died in October 2021 after a shock cancer diagnosis.
Krissie-Lee and Ashleigh’s devastated mother, Shanyn Pedersen, has started a GoFundMe for Ashleigh to help her daughter through this terrible time.
According to the GoFundMe page, Ms Pedersen said Ashleigh discovered a lump in her breast about a year ago, which was originally believed to be a cyst.
After the lump became painful, recent health investigations have revealed she has Stage 3 breast cancer, which has spread into her lymphatic system.
“The shock was beyond belief but as a family we have had to find the strength to be beside her and help her get through this,” Ms Pedersen wrote on the GoFundMe page.
“We can not bear the thought of losing another child.
“The treatment is harsh and is going to be a very long process.”
According to the GoFundMe, Ashleigh is a single mum with an eight-year-old son.
She has already gone through her first round of chemo, however has had to leave her job due to being unwell from the treatment.
On top of battling cancer, Ashleigh is renting a home and unable to renew her lease due to the property owner wanting to sell, Ms Pedersen explained on the fundraising platform. All this in the middle of rental crisis in the region.
The GoFundMe was created to help alleviate the stress and financial burden on Ashleigh during this difficult time.
Ms Pederson shared the GoFundMe page on social media where she received support from the community.
“I did not want to do this but we need to help our daughter,” she wrote.
Despite only creating the GoFundMe two days ago, the page has already raised just over $4000.
