The search for a missing Hervey Bay woman, reported missing when she failed to reach her destination when driving from Urangan to Blackwater, has ended in tragedy.
Krissie-Lee Sheridan was reported missing by her employers when she failed to go to work.
Police have confirmed she was found dead in her vehicle on the Bruce Highway at Kalonga, about 45km outside Gin Gin, where her car was last seen on CCTV.
Her white Toyota Prado was located off the road in Boundary Gully at Kolonga by emergency services crews about 3.20pm Friday afternoon.
The Bruce Highway has been closed in both directions in response to the crash.
The circumstances of the crash are being investigated.
Her disappearance immediately sparked concern from her family, as it was out of character.
Her mother, Shanyn Pedersen, had been posting frantically to Facebook, sharing images of her daughter and the vehicle in the hopes someone had seen her.
“How can you sleep when your baby is missing?” she wrote in one heartbreaking post.
On Friday, police issued a fresh appeal for information amid fears Ms Sheridan was driving in a region which had experienced heavy rain and may have taken an alternate route on a road she wasn’t familiar with.
Ms Sheridan was driving from Hervey Bay to Blackwater for work.
She left the Hervey Bay suburb of Urangan at 10.30am.
On Friday, Senior Constable Melanie Ryan addressed the media, telling of the family’s distress.
She said the failure of the woman to contact her family was “very out of character”.
“The family are quite upset and obviously need to touch base with her,” Snr Const Ryan said.
A spokesman from the Queensland Police Service said a report would be prepared for the coroner.
