Everything you need to know about the Hervey Bay Seafood Festival 2022

From cooking demonstrations to fresh seafood that will make your mouth water, the Fraser Coast’s biggest seafood festival is nearly here. Here’s everything you need to know:

Calling all seafood lovers! The Hervey Bay Seafood Festival is on this Saturday at Seafront Oval by the seashore.

The festival, now in its 23rd year, offers foodies a day packed with mouth-watering seafood, live entertainment and cooking demonstrations.

More than 5000 people are expected to converge at this year’s festival, 500 more than were recorded in 2021.

We’ve created a guide to help visitors navigate their way through the Seafood Festival and everything there is to see and do. Here’s everything you need to know:

When and where?

The festival is held at the Seafront Oval in Hervey Bay on Saturday, August 13, from 10am-5pm.

How much are tickets? 

Pre-sale tickets are on sale priced at $10 for adults and $3 for children.

Tickets are also available at the gate - $12 for adults and $5 for children.

Where can I park?

Parking is available on Hillyard Street for a gold coin donation to SES Fraser Coast.

What’s on?

The main stage will be the hub of live music throughout the day, with a line-up of artists starting with Frank Benn at 10am, the August River Band at 11.15am, Rosa Mack at 1.15pm and Slips & the F.W.’s at 3.15pm.

Roaming around the festival will be Pacific Belles from 10am and Big Top Entertainment from 12pm.

There will also be cooking demonstrations and celebrity chefs at the Castaway Kitchen, which is located closest to the Westside Water Park.

Dan and Steph from Eat @ Dan & Steph’s will be kicking off the cooking demonstrations at 10.30am making Mexican stuffed squid, followed by Jason England from Odyssey Bistro at 11.45am with a double mackerel cheeseburger.

At 1pm Saul Collins from Banksia Seafood & Grill will be making Thai coconut prawn curry, and Jason England will return with Lincoln Truant from Seafood Smokery serving up a smoked blue salmon omelette.

Mullet Roe and XO will take over the kitchen at 2.15pm, followed by Denis Maher from Low ‘n’ Slow BBQ Shack at 3.30pm.

Food vendors, wineries, main bar & cocktail bar

There will be 15-20 vendors at the Seafood Festival, including Tres Salsa, Bayside Paella and Odyssey Bistro.

Speaking at the official launch of the festival in July 2022, Odyssey Bistro owners Scott Thompson and Jason England said they were hoping to get through 120 dozen freshly shucked oysters.

In a statement, Ms Larner-Simpson said there would be more than one tonne of prawns on offer and half a tonne of shell-on prawns.

The Main Bar & Cocktail Bar will be located next to the Main Stage pouring beverages from regional distilleries including Ballistic Brewing and Kalki Moon Distilling Company.

The Wineries tent can be found near the Optus Truck.

There will also be various market stalls.

First aid and toilets

First aid is located between the Main Bar and Castaway Kitchen.

Toilets can be found near the foreshore, just off the oval on Main St.

Supporting Project Manta

According to a statement from Fraser Coast Tourism & Events, Ballistic Beer has pledged for every Reef Mid Lager purchased at the festival, 10c will go to Project Mantra.

The research project supports critical research investigating mantra rays on the East Coast of Australia to help protect local marine life.
