Tap water with a white cloudy appearance has been noticed in parts of the Fraser Coast in recent days – but thankfully there’s a simple explanation.

A burst water pipe in front of a home in Craignish was responsible for the cloudy appearance, which resulted from tiny entrapped air bubbles.

One woman, who asked not to be named, said council staff had worked on repairing the pipe until 11.30pm.

She shared a photo to a Facebook community noticeboard with several residents from Burrum Heads commenting that their water had a similar appearance this week.

A Fraser Coast Regional Council spokesman confirmed there had been an issue with the water supply at Burrum Heads.

“On July 14, Wide Bay Water repaired a break in the water supply main that services the On The Beach Burrum Heads estate,” he said.

“The main was repaired and flushed, however occasionally a break like this can result in entrapped air.

“The white cloudy appearance is the very small, entrapped air bubbles.

“If the glass is left to stand, these will settle out, which is starting to happen at the bottom of the glass in the photo posted on social media.

“We also advise turning on an outside tap and running it for several minutes until the water is clear. That will ensure any residual cloudiness is removed from interior pipes.”
