Debris is scattered across a resort entrance and neighbouring gardens while bloodstained concrete serves as horror reminder of a crash which left three young people injured – two critically – overnight.
The trio was travelling in a car when it smashed through concrete, metal and brick retaining wall and fence at Sea Change Lifestyle Resort on Elizabeth St, Urangan about 1.51am.
The driver and a passenger, a 19-year-old Kawungan man and 22-year-old Urangan woman, have been flown to Brisbane in a critical condition.
The third person, a 26-year-old Urangan man, was transported to Hervey Bay hospital in a serious but stable condition.
The manager of SeaChange, who did not want to be named, was among the first respondents at the scene, telling this publication he ran out to see a wrecked car “tipped over with three unconscious people inside it”.
He said at 1:30am he heard a car “skidding” along Elizabeth Street before hearing a “almighty bang” about 10 minutes later.
Theresa (last name withheld) who lives in the lifestyle resort, said she heard “a lot of screeching and it had been going on for about half an hour”.
“Then we heard a big bang,” she said
The Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the scene of the accident.
Posting a picture of the crash aftermath on Facebook Friday morning, Fraser Coast Councilor David Lee urged people to “please take care” on the roads.
More to come.
