Speed job recruiting and Maryborough RSL

FRASER Coast job seekers will have about five minutes to make their best impression when the Maryborough RSL holds a speed recruiting event on July 12.
About 30 10-minute interviews were initially available but the RSL's hospital manager Stephen Yeates has been overwhelmed by the amount of interest he has received from job seekers around the region since the RSL shared the opportunity on Facebook.
Mr Yeates said the time slots could be reduced to five minutes in an effort to fit up to 60 job seekers, or more time might be set aside to give more people the opportunity to be interviewed.
"That way everyone will have a fair chance to show us why they are the right fit."
Mr Yeates said the aim of the speed recruiting event was to see as many applicants as possible in order to determine the best candidates for the hospitality positions.
The RSL is looking to fill four positions, which had become available thanks to its two-storey expansion worth $6 million and because of other staff leaving, Mr Yeates said.
He said there was a possibility that other positions may become available in the future depending on the needs of the Maryborough club.
Hospitality experience was not needed as training would be provided.
However innovative thinking, a positive, customer focused attitude and good communication skills would all be necessary for the person who took on the position.
Mr Yeates said a shortlist would be created from the speed recruitment interviews and there would then be a second, more comprehensive, round of interviews.
The RSL currently employs about 75 staff.
Mr Yeates said the response to the RSL's Facebook post had been amazing.
He said successful applicants would each receive about six weeks of training where they would learn the various aspects of the business, including service in the bar, cafe and bistro, how to open and close those areas and then learning skills in gaming and function areas.
