American fast food outlet Carl’s Jr is one of the new businesses to open at Kawungan’s newest retail precinct.
The three building development at 158 Main St will also be home to Banjo’s Bakery, King 4WD Supa Centre and a convenience store.
Carl’s Jr has been in Australia since 2016 and has 40 stores across the country, including 11 in Queensland.
The 3934sq m block where the development is being built was bought in September 2021 for $1.1 million by Cavon Pty Ltd.
Once completed, the businesses to open there are expected to provide 30-40 jobs.

Brisbane based developer Anthony Parisi said on one side of the lot, there will be two drive-through buildings, and on the other, a 250sq m building which could hold another three tenancies.
Project plans submitted to council said the location and design “provides high levels of exposure and access for patrons” while maintaining “clear exposure to the street” which they say are critical success criteria for fast food outlets.
The project is one of numerous underway around Hervey Bay, with a complex containing Anaconda and Spotlight on track for completion on Boat Harbour Drive by early 2024.
Mr Parisi said he was optimistic the Kawungan site will be operational by late 2024.
