A romantic comedy set on K’gari will begin shooting on the World Heritage-listed island in October 2023.
Director Tam Sainsbury, one of the team members behind Fraser Coast Films, said location scouting had begun for the new film, titled He Loves Me Not, with the beauty of the island to be captured when shooting begins.
Fraser Coast Films grew out of the team that directed and produced the upcoming psychological thriller 13 Summers, a movie that was shot in Hervey Bay in late 2022, and due for release later this year.
He Loves Me Not is about a wildcard contestant starring on a reality television show similar to The Bachelor who is in it for the money but ends up falling in love.
International star Rhiannon Fish, who appeared in When Love Springs, A Royal in Paradise, Team Bride, and For the Love of Chocolate, will play the leading female role of Holiday, supported by Georgie Parker, star of Home and Away, All Saints and A Country Practice.
Ms Sainsbury said the film would be shot at Kingfisher Bay Resort and locations around K’gari and Hervey Bay.
“There are so many beauty spots around the island – we’re really lucky,” she said.
“Basically it’s about an American actor living and working on K’gari.
“She wants to get into an acting course but she doesn’t have money, then she finds out reality show is coming to the island and she’s asked to join the show as a wildcard.
“But along the way falls love with the lead guy.”
Ms Sainsbury said there would be opportunities for Fraser Coast residents to be part of the movie.
Sponsorship and support from Fraser Coast people and businesses was also welcome, she said.
It comes after a private screening of 13 Summers was held at Maryborough’s Brolga Theatre.
Ms Sainsbury said there had been plenty of positive feedback regarding the movie so far.
The thriller stars Bec Hewitt, Nathan Phillips and Hannah Levien.
“During their annual vacation at an isolated beach, Ben and Vee unexpectedly encounter a mysterious backpacker who draws them into a twisted web of lies, deceit and ultimately, revenge”, a description on its website said.
Ms Sainsbury said the company was aiming to produce two films a year on the Fraser Coast.
