A proposed new development that will include a tavern, multiple shops, a supermarket, childcare centre and service station at Dundowran has been approved by Fraser Coast Regional Council.

The development to be built at the corner Pialba-Burrum Heads Rd and Drury Lane proposes an “extensive range of retail and commercial land uses over six lots”, according to documents submitted to the council.

The decision on the commercial development application proposed by Cinque Projects No 2 was adjourned until Monday on July 26 to allow the councillors more time to read the documents relating to it.

The council voted 10-1 to approve the new development, with Division 10 councillor Zane O’Keefe voting against it.

“Six separate development applications, over each proposed lot, have been lodged for the ultimate centre development,” the documents read.

The development will include a service station, two food and drink outlets with a drive-through facility, a tavern and a childcare facility.

Another lot will include a complex with a supermarket, shop, office space, healthcare services, indoor sport and recreation, a showroom and a food and drink outlet.

“Overall, the site’s position on Pialba Burrum Heads Road, which connects all of the coastal communities, and site location separated from immediately adjoining sensitive uses, is ideal to accommodate the need for additional commercial development within this area,” the documents read.

“The proposed retail centre will provide a positive response to both recent growth within the catchment and forecast growth, therefore reducing the current level of undersupply and increasing the convenience and accessibility of local centres infrastructure.”
