Bauple’s Caitlyn Dean identified as crash victim

Police have reissued a plea for witnesses and dashcam footage after a 21-year-old woman died from injuries sustained in a horror crash on the Bruce Highway south of Maryborough.

A beloved young Bauple woman has died weeks after being critically injured in a crash on the Bruce Highway.

Caitlyn Dean, 21, was critically injured on July 10, 2023, about 8am when her red Holden Barina and a prime mover collided about 35km south of Maryborough. She was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane Hospital but died of her injuries almost three weeks later.

A police spokeswoman said on August 10, police were continuing to investigate the crash.

“The 21-year-old woman from Bauple was flown to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for treatment to critical injuries to her head and legs,” the spokeswoman said.

“She passed away in hospital on July 29.

“The 64-year-old driver of the truck from Burnett Heads was not injured in the crash.

“Police continue to appeal for information and any dashcam in the area to assist with their investigations.”

Tributes were pouring in for the young Fraser Coast roller derby competitor in the wake of her death, with friend Amy Todd posting that she had lost her “closest friend”.

“Since we first met as kids we knew we were soul bound, even years apart could never break us,” she said.

“Today I feel like I have lost a part of my soul.

“I will miss you every day, think about you every night.

“I love you Caitlyn, you saved my life.

“Fly high and return to wonderland.”

A funeral service will be held for Ms Dean on August 16, at the Heritage Chapel at Maryborough Crematorium from 11am.
