A celebration of life is being held in Bundaberg for a Hervey Bay man who was allegedly murdered last month.

Alfred Westmoreland, 75, died after allegedly being assaulted at Tree Tops holiday units at 388 the Esplanade, Torquay, the building he owned and where he and wife Lyn lived.

Joshua John Wishart, a 33-year-old father and musclebound motorcycle enthusiast, has been charged with murder over Mr Westmoreland’s death.

He has not entered a plea at this stage.

While staying in the region on October 20, Mr Wishart had allegedly booked the services of a sex worker at the holiday units.

Police will allege that during his appointment that night something went wrong, and the sex worker, who it can be revealed was aged in her 50s, became distressed and started calling for help.

West Australian man Joshua John Wishart, charged over the violent alleged murder of a Hervey Bay holiday unit manager, has been remanded in custody to face Hervey Bay Magistrates Court again in December.

They will further allege Mr Wishart was arguing with the worker and Mrs Westmoreland when Mr Westmoreland tried to help.

At this point police allege Mr Wishart assaulted Mr Westmoreland, who was seriously injured when police and paramedics arrived on scene and unable to be revived.

Mrs Westmoreland was also allegedly hurt during the argument and taken to Hervey Bay Hospital, according to police.

She was then released and left to deal with what Detective Gary Pettiford described at a press conference as “horrific” tragedy where “her lifelong partner has lost his life in (allegedly) trying to help her”.

A funeral notice for Mr Westmoreland said a private cremation had been held and a celebration of life would be held at Rowers on the River in Quay St Bundaberg on November 9 from 2.30pm.
