The death of 74-year-old convicted murderer Garry Dubois has been marked as “non-suspicious”.

The Chronicle has also been told by authorities, the cause of Dubois’ death did not involve any other inmates, as he was in a “single occupancy cell” at the time of his passing.

Dubois, who was found in his cell at about 4.30am this morning, June 7, was declared dead at about 5.20am after medics were unable to resuscitate him.

While cause of death has not yet been confirmed, the Chronicle understands it is being treated as a suicide.

Dubois died in his cell at Maryborough Correctional Centre, before being able to give evidence at an inquest launched into Brisbane’s Whiskey Au Go Go nightclub firebombing, which killed 15 people on March 8, 1973 – a year before the McCulkins’ deaths.

Queensland Corrections Services (QCS) told the Chronicle the official determination won’t be until after police investigations into the matter.

“(The cause of death) will be determined by the Coroner once police have finalised their investigation,” a QCS spokeswoman said.
