THE scene of Tuesday's fatal crash is a notorious blackspot, with residents in the area begging for the speed limit to be reduced.

Just two weeks ago, a driver crashed into another car before ploughing through the Craignish Golf and Country Club sign.

Following a spate of fatalities at the intersection of nearby Petersens Rd, the speed limit was reduced to 80km at that section in 2013 - but reverts back to 100km just before the Country Club, where the crash this week occurred.

Craignish Country Club owner Greg Harding said he wanted the speed limit reduced and better signage installed at the Castles Rd intersection.

"They should get rid of the give way signs and put in stop signs," he said.

Trisha and Phillip Knott, who live at Castles Rd North, also agreed.

"The speed needs to be reduced," Mr Knott said.

Member for Maryborough Bruce Saunders has already called for a review of the road between Yarrilee and Burrum Heads.

"We called for that yesterday, but we have been working with the Department of Transport and Main Roads to upgrade the road," he said.

Mr Saunders said he had spoken to Minister for Main Roads Mark Bailey's office to discuss the road audit.

A spokeswoman for TMR said the department was working with the police.
