Next steps for $450million Sheraton Resort at Hervey Bay

A month after the $450 million, 18-storey Sheraton project was approved, developers have revealed they are ‘keen to start building’ and what the next step will be in bringing the resort and apartment complex to life.

Speaking exclusively to the Chronicle, Sunny Beach Land director Dan Cuda said the developers remained “fully committed” to delivering the five-star resort and apartments project for the Hervey Bay community after the development application was approved in July 2024.

The next steps in bringing Hervey Bay’s $450 million Sheraton development to life have been revealed.

Speaking exclusively to the Chronicle, Sunny Beach Land director Dan Cuda said the developers remained “fully committed” to delivering the five-star resort and apartments project for the Hervey Bay community after the development application was approved in July 2024.

The application to Fraser Coast Regional Council was approved by the slimmest of margins in a 6-5 vote and included a reduction from 21 storeys to 18 storeys.

“It is clear that the community wants this world-class development to go ahead as the catalyst for a major economic and employment boost for the Fraser Coast region,” Mr Cuda said.

“With majority support from Fraser Coast councillors, council planners, business owners and the wider community, we look forward to bringing our vision for this project to life.

“In terms of the project timeline, we are in the process of revising plans for the number of apartments and the project amenities resulting from our voluntary agreement to reduce the project height from 21 storeys to 18 storeys.

“We are keen to start building as soon as possible to create a landmark five-star development that will put the Fraser Coast region on the world stage for the benefit of the community, the economy, jobs, tourists and future generations.”

The development will feature a mix of residential, resort, retail and luxury entertainment options, including 340 private apartments in addition to more than 200 hotel rooms, a business lounge, fitness centre, international standard, 400-seat function and conference space and a destination rooftop bar overlooking the bay.

It is expected to generate an estimated 1350 new jobs across the life of the project.

After the council meeting in July, Mr Cuda said the approval was the trigger for a major economic, employment and social boost for the Fraser Coast region.

“We also extend our deepest appreciation to Hervey Bay residents and the wider Fraser Coast community for their incredible support for a Sheraton Resort Hervey Bay.

“While we understand and appreciate that not everyone was in favour of this proposal, we are very grateful for the overwhelming feedback received and thank everyone for their interest in the project and their willingness to participate in the discussion.

“There is no doubt the Sheraton Resort Hervey Bay will be a catalyst for continued growth and progress that will ensure a more sustainable and prosperous future for the Bay.

“We are committed to seeing this project through and creating a landmark development that will put our region on the world stage today and for future generations.”
