A Fraser Coast father suffered critical injuries in a building site fall earlier this month is still fighting for life in a Brisbane hospital.

Ben Keelty was working on a building site at Urangan when he fell through the fibreglass sheeting in a skylight from a height of about four metres on July 9.

His injuries included brain bleeds, swelling, a fractured skull, broken ribs, lower back fractures and other less serious injuries. Now, it’s been revealed he may not be covered by insurance.

A GoFundMe page since been started.

“His journey to recovery is going to be long and extensive,” the GoFundMe page reads.

“As a subcontractor without insurance, he is unlikely covered by worker’s compensation.”

Accommodation for his family to stay in Brisbane to be close to the hospital and him is more than $2000 a week even with patient travel subsidies, the GoFundMe page read.

“Unfortunately without extra income from Ben this is financially a struggle for his family while maintaining the regular costs of living and we are asking for assistance so that we can all be close to him.

“Father, son, brother, partner, friend, work mate; Ben is a lot of things to a lot of different people and right now urgently needs support for his family to be able to be with him in Brisbane and for his long term.

“Whether you are able to donate financially or not we ask that you please include him and his family in your prayers.”

So far more than $3000 has been raised to help Mr Keelty’s family.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland was notified of the incident.

“WHSQ inspectors attended the site and will continue to make further inquiries,” a spokeswoman said.

“No further comment can be made at this time.”
