Plumes of heavy smoke have engulfed a Queensland neighbourhood as emergency crews work to extinguish an industrial shed blaze which broke out early Sunday morning.
Emergency crews rushed to Charles St near its intersection with Alice St in Pialba at 5am on Sunday after an industrial shed storing op-shop wares caught fire and quickly became fully engulfed, with its roof collapsing in, a Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said.
Multiple fire crews battled the flames and managed to contain it to the shed.
By 6.30am the fire was under control, the spokeswoman said.
No one in the building was injured a Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said.
The shed was storing op-shop items for Bayside Transformations, a Hervey Bay drug addiction treatment centre.
“It was a very sad morning watching our op-shop storage shed at Charles Street go up in smoke,” the organisation posted to Facebook on Sunday morning.
“I truly want to thank all the community for your generous donations that helped fund our program.
“Sadly many of those donations went up in smoke.
“Thank you to the landlord who leased that property to us for over 10 years.”
Paramedics and police remained at the scene as fire crews worked to fully extinguish the fire.
Police and fire crews are investigating the cause of the fire.
Police are treating it as suspicious and are appealing for witnesses or any relevant visual footage.
Fire authorities have issued a smoke alert in Pialba.
“Smoke is affecting the surrounding area and will do so over the coming hours,” the alert said.
“Residents should close windows and doors and keep respiratory mediation close by, if required.”
