ALGAE is once again an issue at Dundowran Beach, with a reader submitting a photo to the Fraser Coast Chronicle showing the extent of the problem.
Annie McConnell said a photo of the algae, along with the question: "I wonder if it would still look like this if the algae was on Torquay or Scarness beach?"
The Fraser Coast council did a clean up of the algae at the beach last month, but it appears to have returned.
At the time, a statement from the council confirmed the algae had traces of blue-green algae, which can cause skin, eye and respiratory irritations.
Fraser Coast Mayor Gerard O'Connell said the council would continue to monitor the situation and future clean-ups could be planned depending on how much algae accumulated on the beach.
Attempts were made to contact Cr O'Connell to try to determine if the council was planning another clean-up, but he couldn't be reached.
Algae is an unpleasant experience, says online editor Amy Formosa
No, no don't fall in, don't fall in.
This was exactly what I said to myself as I looked down to see green algae covering the water while I rode a wave in at Dundowran Beach on Sunday.
Next minute - I fall into the green swamp.
Yuck!
I mean I am a fully grown adult and all, but the slimy feeling against your skin still creeps me out a little.
I have recently taken up paddle boarding and my partner and I thought we would venture somewhere a little different and check out a beach away from the main stretch.
Dundowran is a gorgeous area to discover, but I won't be taking my board into the water again if the algae sticks around.
Not only did it cover my skin, but my board was speckled green before I gave it a good wash.
