A 23-year-old man busted stealing a box of condoms from Woolies has had to front court in Maryborough.

A man who stole a $12 box of condoms from a Woolworths supermarket in Maryborough was sentenced in court.

Aaron Murray Bridge, 23, pleaded guilty to taking an item without discharging his debt when he faced Maryborough Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The court heard on December 17, 2023, Bridge took a box of condoms valued at $12 from Maryborough’s Woolworths supermarket.

Bridge then concealed the box under his jumper before exiting the store without attempting to pay, the court heard.

Police were conducting a walk-through and were made aware of the incident by a member of the public.

Bridge made full admissions about taking the item.

He stated he didn’t have money to pay and didn’t want his girlfriend to get pregnant.

The court heard Bridge had no criminal history.

Duty lawyer Morgan Harris said Bridge was receiving a disability support pension after being diagnosed with epilepsy when he was eight.

He was also on a mental health plan, Mr Harris said.

Magistrate John Milburn sentenced Bridge to a $200 good behaviour bond for two months.

No conviction was recorded.

“If you stay out of trouble in the next two months, that is the end of that matter, you won’t have to pay any money,” he said.

No restitution was sought.
