Bright colours, stunning fascinators and big hats dominated as people gathered across the Fraser Coast to celebrate the running of the Melbourne Cup.

Groups packed into Maryborough’s Carriers Arms Hotel to enjoy the annual buffet and hopefully back a winner, while Maryborough Services and Citizen’s Memorial Club was also a popular spot to have lunch and watch the race.

In Hervey Bay, the RSL, the Beach House Hotel and the Bayswater Hotel were also popular choices as those enjoying the event got ready to watch the big race.

It comes after the Fraser Coast celebrated its own race day last month at the Torbanlea Picnic Races.
