Hundreds of mourners wearing black attire have packed into a Sandgate church this morning to bid farewell to alleged Fortitude Valley stabbing victim Lauie Michael Tagaloa.
Motorbike riders and cars donned with Samoan flags led a procession of loved ones out of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Friday following Mr Tagaloa’s funeral.
Mr Tagaloa, 24, sustained fatal stab wounds to the neck after an alleged altercation between two groups at the Valley Metro complex in Fortitude Valley earlier this month.
Footage of the July 11 incident showed Mr Tagaloa collapsing to the ground and despite the best efforts of witnesses and paramedics, he could not be saved.
A tight-knit community of Mr Tagaloa’s family and friends gathered on Thursday night for a private but touching service at the Victory Church at Bridgeman Downs.
Tributes including “Fly high our Fatty” were on display on the livestreamed service from Thursday night, accompanied with songs and prayers.
“Memories spent with you will be forever cherished for us all. We will miss you so much. Please guide and watch over us,” a loved one said.
“We all love you and miss you so much,” said one of his closest mates. “Keep the gates open for us.”
It was followed by Friday morning’s service, where burnouts were performed by motorists on the street while hundreds of mourners overflowed out of the church.
It was understood the loved ones would go for “one last ride” in honour of Mr Tagaloa’s love of cars.
Close friends said they were left heartbroken over Mr Tagaloa’s death and described him as “my brother, my best friend, my security guard, one of my favourite people”.
Seyram Kwami Djentuh, 20, has been charged with one count of murder.
Mr Djentuh’s case has been adjourned until August 8 and he has been remanded in custody.
