THE Ekka has been cancelled but you can still buy a showbag – at the supermarket.
Showbag tragics have always been able to get their bags online, but from Wednesday IGA supermarket shelves will be stocked with 20 confectionary, chocolate and novelty showbags.

The range on sale includes Dairy Milk, Caramello Koala, Curly Wurly, Chupa Chups, Zappo, Warhead, Harry Potter, Hot Wheels, Bluey and Pokemon and costs from $5 to $30.
Showbags.com.au General Manager of Retail and Production Development, Samantha Atkinson says, with IGA, it is helping to make sure the showbag tradition continues – even if you can’t go to the show.
“Whether you are a chocoholic or your little one is Harry Potter obsessed, there is a showbag for absolutely everyone both on the shelves of IGA stores and available online to be delivered directly to your door,” she says.
Queensland and Northern NSW IGA state board chairman Frank Spano said that like many, he had been disappointed to hear the Ekka had been cancelled.
The showbags are available at IGA stores in Queensland and northern New South Wales.
