Ekka 2020 cancelled: Showbags still on sale despite shutdown

You’ll have to watch farm animal videos online and make your own strawberries and ice cream this year, but one Ekka staple will still be available in 2020 – the all important showbag.

Cancellation of Sydney's Royal Easter Show a great disappointment for farmers

EKKA tragics can still get their hands on this year’s showbags.

Since it was announced last month that Sydney’s Royal Easter Show was cancelled, showbag suppliers have been working to make their sample bags available online.

And the good news is the showbags are available to order now so there’s no waiting until August for your Bertie Beetle fix.

Ed Veale, general manager of Hunter Leisure Carnival Division – which has been supplying showbags for 45 years – said he was sad and disappointed the Ekka had been cancelled.

“But we understand the importance of everyone’s health and wellbeing and the safety of our customers and staff is the most important consideration right now and we fully support the decision by the RNA,” he said.

“To help ease the disappointment for all those who can’t attend the Ekka this year we recently launched a brand new showbag website to allow our customers to purchase a range of our showbags online year ‘round.”

New bags this year – available at showbagworld.com include Trolls World Tour, Baby Shark, Frozen II, JoJo Siwa and Star Wars bags.

Chicane Showbags, which has been in the showbags business for two decades and sells the popular Bertie Bettle bag, is also selling its showbags online at showbagshop.com.au
