Western Downs massive list of events and activities for school holidays
Residents can expect the remainder of school holidays to heat up with El Nino on our doorstep, and the Western Downs region has opened its doors to many events that will help families cool down for the rest of the holidays. Check out our comprehensive guide to all things fun for the family.

Families have hit the halfway mark on school holidays and there’s still plenty to do in the Western Downs to keep everyone occupied.
On Thursday residents will feel the heat with temperatures in some parts of Queensland expected to hit up to 40C and people can take advantage of Tara’s revitalised swimming pool which officially opened this week.

Dalby
Paper mache creator, Dalby library
Kids and parents are invited to come along and participate in paper mache activities on September 25 from 9.30am to 10.30am.
The activity is free however registration is required.

Storytime, Dalby library
On September 26, children’s author Rory Mathers is joining kids at the Dalby library for story time over the school holidays.
Mr Mathers is responsible for writing books such as ‘Get back to your books!’, ‘Sebastian stands out’ and ‘Monster school rules’.

Sea glass wind chime, Dalby library
On September 27 from 10am to 12pm, residents will have the opportunity to participate in a workshop to create sea glass wind chimes they can take home to hang up.
The event is free and registration is required.

Big Skies, Jimbour House
The annual Big Skies Music Festival will round out the school holidays starting on September 28 and finishing October 2.
The massive event will feature a huge rock and roll line up of nationally recognised artists and will be sure to entertain every member of the family.
Chinchilla

3D print custom lamp, Tara library
The event is a 3D workshop for teens to participate in while on the school holidays.
On September 26 from 2pm to 4pm residents can participate in the session where people will design 3D models to fit an LED lamp base before sending it to printing.
The event is free and residents can register while at the venue.

Rugged robots, Tara library
On September 27 the library is hosting a program that will allows residents to use robots to go over ‘different terrains and pathways’.

Miles

On September 28 from 10am to 12pm, residents will get the opportunity to experience virtual reality in a tech program at the library.

Jandowae
Mini drones for teens, Jandowae library
Teens are invited to come along to the Jandowae library to participate in a special drones activity.
The action-packed session will be held September 25 from 2pm to 5pm and is said to be perfect for young kids who will learn everything there is to drones.
Registration is required but the event is free.
