Western Downs police call for information with Moonie fire being treated as suspicious

Police have revealed the latest bushfires in the Moonie area are being treated as suspicious, with any residents who may have any information urged to come forward.

Western Downs police are asking for help from the public as they probe the cause of a blaze that’s swept through thousands of hectares in the Moonie area.

Investigations are ongoing, as police announce they are treating the fire as suspicious.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the Cecil Plains Rd and Moonie Highway area on Tuesday, February 28 between 7.20pm and 9pm to contact police.

The announcement comes as the latest fire warning as of 8am Friday morning warns residents in the Weir River (near Moonie) area to stay informed.

In the early hours of Thursday afternoon, fire emergency crews were on the scene of a fire that started along Cecil Plains Rd and Moonie Highway, and was 14,600ha in size.

If residents have any information on the fire they should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or Policelink on 131 444, if they are in immediate danger, call triple-0.
