Dalby woman Shanelle Joy Baker has faced Dalby Magistrates Court for damaging the car of her ex-partner’s mother.

A Dalby mother of four has pleaded guilty to damaging property and breaching a domestic violence order following an incident earlier this week.

Shanelle Joy Baker, 38, fronted Dalby Magistrates Court in cuffs escorted from the watch-house where she had been held since Monday.

The court was told that on May 6 Baker’s ex-partner was at a park with his mother and new partner when Baker saw them and became enraged, slamming the bonnet of her former partner’s mother’s car twice, causing damage.

The ex-partner had a domestic violence order against Baker.

Baker’s lawyer said her client had lost control when she saw her former partner with a new woman, who was also a former friend of hers, and had acted out.

The court was told Baker had committed a string of offences since 2022 and magistrate Kyna Morice said these were most likely due to Baker’s drug habit urging her to get clean for her four children.

She also said Baker had breached other orders multiple times but there was still time for change and “the horse has not bolted yet”.

Baker was sentenced to three months imprisonment, suspended for 15 months, and a conviction was recorded.
