A rumour swirling around a small town north of Dalby led to two men coming to blows in broad daylight outside a local library.
Luke Thomas Daniel Sheen’s reason for striking his victim was heard in Dalby Magistrates Court on Tuesday, where he pleaded guilty to public nuisance.
The court heard things became heated between the two at the Jandowae Community and Cultural Centre about 3.30pm on June 25.
Police prosecutor Derek Brady said the Jandowae man spotted the other man in the library where they exchanged words.
Sergeant Brady said Sheen then “flipped the bird” at his victim.
The 20-year-old left the library while the victim followed to continue their argument.
The court heard Sheen then called his victim a “c---”, before he grabbed him by the collar and slapped him across the cheek.
Witnesses intervened and separated the fight, with Sheen leaving the scene.
Sergeant Brady said Sheen later told police he slapped the other man because he was “angry” about a rumour the man had taken nude photographs of his partner.
Duty lawyer Jessica Hine said the 20-year-old fabricator had expressed remorse to police.
Magistrate Kerrie O’Callaghan told Sheen he needed to “get a hold” of his anger and stop that type of behaviour.
Sheen was fined $750 and no conviction was recorded.
