A man in his 40s has been fined after he drunkenly damaged the inside of a police car.
Guy Robert Mitchell faced Dalby Magistrates Court on Tuesday, pleading guilty to wilfully damaging police property after an incident in Dalby on December 12, 2024.
The court was told Mitchell, who had a history of drink driving and public nuisance charges, had been arrested for a separate matter and was being taken to the police station when officers heard a loud scratching noise coming from the back of the vehicle.
When they pulled over to investigate they found deep scratches in the car’s rear window and saw Mitchell filming them while sticking up his middle finger.
Police said Mitchell was “belligerent” and drunk when they asked him if he had scratched the window he vehemently denied it despite police hearing him do it.
Mitchell however quickly changed his tune and admitted to damaging the window with police asking him what he had used and him saying “my fingers, my f--king fingers c--t”.
A quick search of the vehicle discovered a $2 coin on the floor which police believed was used to damage the vehicle, however Mitchell denied this and said it wasn’t his.
In court Mitchell tried to argue what he had used to damage the vehicle as well as the circumstances of his arrest but was quickly silenced by magistrate Kathleen Payne.
Mitchell told the court he had been drinking heavily at home prior to the incident and was remorseful for his actions
For his offending Michell was fined $400 and no conviction was recorded.
