A video was taken of a woman being punched repeatedly in the head, and was sent to the victim’s mother, while the attacker claimed she doesn’t remember launching the disturbing assault due to being drunk.

Marlia Rose Weribone, who punched another woman in the head while at the victim’s house on February 13, appeared before Dalby Magistrates Court.

Police prosecutor Chris Hutchins said the 21-year-old, who had no criminal history, was unknown to the victim before attending her house with friends and staying up talking through the night.

“The victim said everything was fine then without warning she was attacked,” he said.

“(Weribone) stood over the victim punching her in the head numerous times causing immediate pain.”

The court was told a video of the assault was sent to the victim’s mother.

On February 21 Weribone attended Dalby police station where she made full admissions to the attack however claimed she couldn’t remember why she got “angry” and started punching the other woman.

Defence lawyer Michael McElhinney said his client had “vague recollections” of the evening.

“She didn’t really know the victim and doesn’t recall what the victim said to make her angry,” he said.

Magistrate Kyna Morice asked Weribone if she was at all shocked by what she’d done after she realised.

“This is a serious charge,” she said.

“Did it concern you when you realised what you’d done and couldn’t remember why?”

The woman paused and said, “A little bit, yes”.

Ms Morice reminded the woman of the possible consequences if things had gotten more out of hand.

“It would’ve been an incredibly scary and painful event for her,” she said.

Weribone pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful assault.

She was sentenced to a good behaviour bond of $800, for 12 months and ordered to pay $400 in compensation to the victim.

No conviction was recorded.
