A Dalby mum was caught by police driving around town high at midnight, with a massive amount of marijuana stashed in her car.
The late-night drug drive on April 17, landed Donna Marie Casey in court for multiple drug charges.
Police prosecutor sergeant Chris Hutchins said the mother’s car was pulled over on Drayton Street for a random breath test, although police grew suspicious when her reading came back zero.
“She displayed (behaviour) indicative of being under the influence of a dangerous drug and was transported to hospital to undergo tests,” he said.
Soon after the RBT, sergeant Hutchins said police spotted a cone piece sitting in the centre console and made the decision to search the car.
The court heard police found 53 grams of marijuana, a used bong and pipe, a set of scales, and used clip seal bags.
At the Dalby Magistrates Court on Tuesday, June 22, Casey pleaded guilty to possessing dangerous drugs, drug driving, possessing drug utensils, and possessing property suspected to be used in connection with a drug offence.
Defence solicitor Thomas McKee said 39-year-old mum of four who had close to no criminal history, had been using marijuana to self-medicate several mental health issues.
Magistrate Tracy Mossop told the mum she had been dealing with enough stress in life she didn’t need to be added to it.
“You’re trying to make positive steps to improve without engaging in this silly behaviour,” Ms Mossop said.
Casey was fined $1200 and disqualified from driving for two months.
No convictions were recorded.
