Police officers are investigating a pair of stolen vehicles that showed up completely obliterated on a public oval in Dalby earlier this week.

A Queensland Police spokesperson said two cars were reported as stolen between Monday at 10pm and Tuesday just after midnight this week from Barry Place.

They said police were called to a fire scene behind Mary and Allen St at Waminda oval early hours of Tuesday morning where they located the Ford Range and Toyota Rav.

Police are urging residents who may have any information or CCTV to come forward and contact policelink on 131 444.

The investigation comes less than three months after it was revealed the Darling Downs and Maranoa region is eight highest in the state for car thefts this year with an increase of 17.60 per cent from last year.

Chief Executive Insurance at RACQ Trent Sayers urged Queenslanders to stay on high alert and take extensive precautions to keep their vehicles safe.

“(Residents) must keep security in mind when parking their cars, particularly overnight,” he said.

“When possible, keep your car in a locked garage or gated driveway and lock your car even when it’s in a secure location.”
