A Western Downs man who just started his own civil contracting business told a court he has no idea what will happen with it after losing his licence for drug driving.

Kurtis David Chalk fronted Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday, April 10, and pleaded guilty to driving with meth in his system.

It is the third time within a three-year period the Chinchilla father has been caught with the insidious drug in his system while driving.

In October 2022, Chalk was caught driving with meth in his system at Dalby, while using police-like flashing lights on his car to overtake vehicles.

He was fined $1400 and disqualified from driving for four months in early 2023, after pleading guilty to impersonating police and two counts of drug driving.

The court heard the recent offence occurred on November 10, 2023, when the grader operator was pulled over on his way to McDonald’s.

He was pulled over on Colamba St and returned a positive roadside reading for ice.

The 28-year-old man told magistrate Louise Shepard he started his own business mid-2023, and had “no idea” what to do with it as he needed his licence and had no employees.

Ms Shepard said given how long his charge was lagged before the court, he had plenty of time to get his affairs in order.

Chalk was fined $500 and had his licence disqualified for six months.

No conviction was recorded.
