A man admitted to police that he consumed meth before getting behind the wheel of his car, driving in a “dangerous manner” then abandoning the vehicle in the middle of a Western Downs highway during a shocking drug drive.

Brandon John Modrzynski appeared in Dalby Magistrates Court on November 7 after a witness from a service station called the police concerned about his erratic driving.

Police prosecutor Chris Hutchins said the 25-year-old was originally parked at Thomas Jack Park in Dalby on October 6 and was seen by witnesses looking “heavily under the influence of drugs” and “paranoid”.

He said the father of three drove to a fuel station where the staff member observed him driving “strangely” slow and continually tapping on the breaks as he drove in.

“ (Modrzynski) appeared upset and paranoid, and got back in the vehicle exiting the service station,” Sergeant Hutchins said.

“He was seen driving irregular, in a dangerous manner. He drove 150m before stopping in the middle of the lane of traffic and left the vehicle.”

‘HE WAS ARRESTED AND INCREDIBLY PARANOID’

Sergeant Hutchins said the man wandered away from the car before police found the vehicle and had to push it off the highway.

“(Police) located (the man), he was arrested and incredibly paranoid,” he said.

“He believed he was involved in an accident but would not provide further details, police observed no damage to the vehicle.”

The court was told Modrzynski told police he took meth “moments” before driving.

Representing himself in court, Modrzynski said he was very remorseful for his actions and had since been to a doctor to receive medical treatment for his mental health.

“I understand I have stuffed up it will not happen again,” he said.

“It’s going to cause me and my family hardship but I understand it was my mistake.”

The man pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence.

He was fined $1200 and disqualified from driving for six months. A conviction was recorded.
