Mother’s Day: Dalby community celebrates town’s supermums

A Dalby mother of six and business owner who has already returned to work only a week after giving birth to her new baby is just one of the town’s mums being celebrated this Mother’s Day.

Dalby has no shortage of brilliant mums who inspire their loved ones and the wider community, from those juggling motherhood with running their own business to dedicated volunteers and charity workers.

Katrina Casey was just one of the mums nominated by Dalby residents as deserving an extra shout-out this Mother’s Day, with the mother of six balancing the demands of family life with running Patrick St hair salon The Look.

Going straight back into work only a week after giving birth to her birth of her new baby, Mrs Casey attributed her successful work-life balance to the constant support from her family.

“We are a very busy household but we all work together greatly. There are fights and arguments but at the end of the day we all have each other’s backs,” she said.

With her children aged between 19 and her one-week-old newborn, Mrs Casey said her older children helped out wherever they could, from household chores to keeping their younger siblings entertained.

Mrs Casey said her hair salon was not just a place for business, but something of a second home and family for her and her children.

“My clients are also so very wonderful, whether it be letting my three-year-old daughter paint their nails or brush their hair, to holding my one-week-old son if he needs a cuddle,” she said.

“Being a mother is one of the hardest jobs I’ve had but it’s the most rewarding. I wouldn’t change it for the world.”

Mrs Casey was nominated by long-time friend Lisa Koch-Southern, who described her as a “supermum”.

“Just welcomed her sixth child into the world! Owns her own business and worked right up to having bub and straight back into it after,” she said.

“She’s totally devoted to her family, friends and clients.”

Ms Koch-Southern said Mrs Casey was always on the go and made time in her hectic schedule to look after her six children herself.

“Her soft, caring personality has been taught to her children as well,” she said.

“They are all lovely and respectful to everyone and even though her life is busy, she always has time to help friends when needed also.”

Residents took the time to nominate other Dalby supermums that deserve to be acknowledged this Mother’s Day.
