A Western Downs man is still fighting for his life following a serious traffic crash.

The 22-year-old was one of three people traveling in a Holden Colorado along Tara-Kogan Rd at Kogan in the early hours of Tuesday morning when a Nissan X-Trail allegedly struck them from behind.

The other two occupants of the Holden Colorado, a 20-year-old woman and her two-year-old son, were also both injured in the crash but are in stable conditions.

Police said that no one in the Nissan X-Trail was injured.

A spokesperson from the Princess Alexandra Hospital said the 22-year-old was in a critical but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit.

On Tuesday afternoon Western Downs police arrested a 36-year-old man who was allegedly involved in the crash, and he has been remanded in police custody.

Earlier it was reported that Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics stabilised the 22-year-old man at the scene before he was transferred via rescue helicopter and flown to hospital.

The Queensland Police Service Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the matter.

Anyone with information about the incident, including dashcam footage of the moments leading up to it, is urged to phone Policelink on 131 444.
