The Chinchilla Race Club says they are looking for more members and volunteers following their successful first race meet of the year.

Local trainers showed they could mix it with the best of them taking home several winning doubles across the day.

Chinchilla trainer Rodney Hay and jockey Tamara Noble won race three on Momack and race five with Daytona Girl while former Chinchilla trainer Garnett Taylor and jockey Ryan Wiggins took out race one with Langlans and race two on Bold Pedro.

Elsewhere Miles’ Maleah Hill secured a win in the last with Dustin ridden by Tyler Lesligbt.

Club president Jo Rayner hailed the first event of the year a success with more than 100 guests in attendance.

“We were really happy with the first meet, it was successful, we had 56 horses participate and it was a really good day,” she said.

“We had about 120 guests come along, the tab meeting being on a Monday typically isn’t as well attended but we were very happy with how it turned out.

“We are a fairly new committee started in February, and it has been a big learning curve but the team we have now is going to be a progressive and happy committee.

“The new committee is keen to do new improvements at the track, general maintenance and we are looking to spend some money on the track by putting in new sprinklers.”

Ms Rayner said they were targeting new members to get involved in the club.

“It can be difficult to get people to join up, so we are keen to get the community to join the race club and get some volunteers to help on race days,” she said.

“We are really hoping to target younger members, our youngest member is 15 year old Coby Flint who does an amazing job in his role as racing manager where he is responsible for making sure the tie ups are in perfect order and he also works as a barrier attendant.

“It would be great to see some younger members of our community come along and help, many hands make light work and the young ones are a lot of fun.

“It is fun to work with a group of like-minded people who want to do something good for the community.”

Ms Rayner said the events were important for Chinchilla.

“We hold these events four times a year and they are some of the biggest social events for the town,” she said.

“We are keen for some new ideas, to look at things through a new set of eyes, have a bit of fun and make sure country racing stays supported.

“We want to make Chinchilla a good place to live.”

The next race meeting will be held on Monday May 20.
