Dalby PCYC have taken home a stack of silverware from the weekend’s Golden Gloves.

Out of the six competitors taking the ring, the club came away with three golds and two silvers over an exciting four days of fights at Brisbane’s Mansfield Entertainment Centre.

Corey Flemming was first up on Thursday, taking out the win in his first match before going on a run to the title.

“He had three fights on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday and ended up winning the Golden Gloves,” coach Andrew Alderton said.

“He had three really good opponents, one which he’d fought before and he showed great heart, great technical skills and I couldn't fault him.”

Next up were Beau Von Pein and Joshua ‘JJ’ Hassan, who both continued their hot streaks.

“Beau does what he does and he came at this kid hard and ended up chasing him around the ring and getting the Golden Gloves which was great,” Alderton said.

“JJ also fought in the finals against a kid he lost to at the Australian titles and he took him apart. He had a great fight, really technical, this guy hardly got a hit on him and he also won the Golden Gloves.”

After a strong win on Friday against another Australian champion Judd Alderton was through to the finals, facing off against a tough seasoned opponent.

“On the Saturday Judd fought a sharp little opponent and he didn't quite get there and ended up with the silver gloves, but that's OK we go back to the drawing board,” the coach said.

Seth Seaton was up, next beating his opponent on the Friday and making it through to the semi-finals.

Despite a hard fought effort he was narrowly defeated, missing out on his spot in the finals.

“He went in on the Saturday with a really tough opponent and that was an all out war, all credit to Seth he didn't back down but didn't quite there in the end,” Alderton said.

Last up was the talented Monique Barker who had her Golden Gloves’ dreams cut short after suffering a freak accident in the ring.

“Monique went in hard and fast, but had to retire due to a dislocated shoulder, but all credit to her she is one tough cookie,” Alderton said.

“She ended up walking away with the silver but in all honesty if she didn't dislocate her shoulder she would’ve had her easily.”

Coach Alderton said he was proud of the team and the heart they showed both in and outside the ring.

“It was a great learning outcome for all of them, I think they are all happy with what they did and I’m really happy with them all,” Alderton said.

“Not one of them took a backwards step, they’ve just got big hearts and they give everything out there.

“I’m very lucky, I’ve got a great bunch of kids.”
