Dalby woman to shake up foodie scene with healthy hot spot

A born and bred Dalby woman and fitness competitor is adding cafe owner under her belt as she prepares to open a modern, health-inspired food haven at the centre of town in upcoming weeks.

Foodies can rejoice as new cafe, Breeze on Drayton, is set to open its doors at the end of the month.

And its owner has promised to provide residents with healthy, flavoursome options.

Dalby woman Breanna Bacon said while she had always been interested in health after previously running a disability support business, it was a national fitness competition in 2022 that really triggered her passion.

“Last year I (competed in the) Women’s Beauty Fashion and Fitness competition and it was amazing,” she said.

“On that journey I learnt so much about myself and how my body reacts to different things.”

The Dalby woman said she found it difficult to purchase food that wasn’t deep fried.

The Health of Queenslanders Report 2020 revealed that 25 per cent of children and 66 per cent of adults in Queensland are overweight or obese.

“I’m actually getting the landlord here to remove the deep fryer, we will not be using it,” she said.

“Some people go ‘kids want chips’, so I might look at getting an air fryer, there are other options.”

The cafe will be dog friendly and offer predominantly gluten-free foods.

“I have a lot of friends that are gluten free, dairy free and where do they go?” she said.

“That’s something I want to push, pretty much everything will be gluten free, in my eyes it doesn’t change the flavour and you don’t have to compromise.”

Another huge factor for the business owner is offering residents fresh food.

“I love going to the coast, between the energy and food it all feels fresher and nice,” she said.

“My concern is with the price of everything, to have it fresh it does cost a little bit more.

“I’m hoping Dalby will approach it like they would a Sunshine or Gold Coast cafe where they do charge a bit extra but you’re getting it fresh.”

In terms of future plans, the Dalby woman has plenty up her sleeve.

“My big goal is to create a nice space for people to relax and lounge around,” she said.

“Over the next couple of months I want to get my liquor licence to do Sunday brunch, so a few nicer things.

“We’re not doing dinner yet, I want to get the liquor licence first because you don’t want a smoothie with steak.”

So far the menu boasts a combination of home-cooked meals as well as fresh and vibrant options including overnight oats, chia puddings, yoghurt parfait, pancakes, bacon and eggs and breakfast bagels.

Lunch options will include salads, sandwiches, toasties and open grills.

The cafe will open on January 22 and is located at 69 Drayton St.
